When you think about ‘Automation’ you might not come up with these cool facts:
– Automation is older than electricity. Water wheels, windmills, and mechanical clocks were early forms of automation.
– The word “robot” is only about 100 years old. It comes from a 1920 Czech play and is based on a word meaning forced labor or work.
– The first industrial robot was in 1961 called Unimate, and it weighed about 4,000 pounds. It was basically a giant mechanical arm built to do the kind of miserable, dangerous job nobody wanted.
